Parenting is one of the most important jobs in the world, and it can also be one of life's most enjoyable experiences. Small children are engaging, affectionate, entertaining, curious, full of life, and fun to be around. For many adults, parenting provides profound and unique benefits unequaled by any other area of life.

Yet being a mom or a dad can also be unbelievably frustrating. Repeat the Twinkie scene more than a thousand times and you have guaranteed misery. In extreme but all-too-common situations, that misery can become the source of emotional and physical abuse. That's no way for anyone-child or adult-to live.

Children don't come with a How-To-Raise-Me training manual. That's why there is a program like 1-2-3 Magic. The 1-2-3 program is currently being used all over the world by millions of parents (including single and divorced), teachers, grandparents, day care centers, babysitters, summer camp counselors, hospital staff, and other child caretakers, all of whom are working toward the goal of raising happy, healthy children.

The 1-2-3 program is also being taught and recommended by thousands of mental health professionals and pediatricians. At parent-teacher conferences, teachers recommend 1-2-3 Magic to the parents of their students (and sometimes parents recommend 1-2-3 Magic for Teachers to the teachers!).

How to Get Started

When you finish learning the 1-2-3 Magic program it is a good idea to start practicing it immediately. Talk with your spouse or partner, if both of you are living at home, and then get going right away. If you are a single parent, take a deep breath and then explain the drill to your children. Do the same thing if you're a grandparent. If you don't start right away, you may never get around to it.

After learning 1-2-3 Magic, you will know exactly what to do, what not to do, what to say, and what not to say in just about every one of the common, everyday problem situations you run into with your kids. Because 1-2-3 Magic is based on only a few basic but critical principles, you will not only be able to remember what to do, you will be able to do it when you are anxious, agitated, or otherwise upset (which for many of us parents is every day!). You will also be able to be a kind but effective parent when you are busy, in a hurry, or otherwise preoccupied.

What to Expect When You Begin the 1-2-3 Program

When you start 1-2-3 Magic, your relationship with your children will change quickly. But there is good news and bad news. The good news is that initially about half of all kids will fall into the "immediate cooperator" category. You start the program and they cooperate right away-sometimes "just like magic." What do you do? Just relax and enjoy your good fortune!

The bad news is that the other half of the kids will fall into the "immediate tester" category. These children will get worse first. They will challenge you to see if you really mean business with your new parenting ideas. If you stick to your guns, however-no arguing, yelling, or hitting-you will get the vast majority of these little testers shaped up fairly well in about a week to ten days. Then what do you do? You start enjoying your children again.

Believe it or not, you may soon have a much more peaceful home and more enjoyable kids. You will go back to liking and respecting yourself as a parent-and it can all happen in the foreseeable future!

Before we get into the details of the 1-2-3 program and Parenting Job 1, controlling obnoxious behavior, we should identify some very important concepts that are the fundamental to understanding how 1-2-3 Magic works:

It's working for us and our almost 3 year old!

So far so good! Our son is 2.5 years old and testing us at every turn. He's sweet and intelligent but also very high energy and exerting his independence. I personally got very frustrated with him at times and needed to find a way to effectively handle those moments. Just like with Dog training, it's about training the parent. This book has given my husband and I a better understanding of our son and a strategy for handling unwanted behavior. Just having an approach/plan of action has calmed us all. We also liked how the book points out that children are NOT small adults. We need to stop expecting them to be mature and reasonable. I like that there isn't a lot of conversation- just calm counting and sending him to time out. The only time I have had trouble is when I REALLY can't deal with him- as in alone with him and my infant and I'm bathing her. Obviously I can't walk away from her to send him to his room. Times like that, I just have to predict the scenario and put him in a place where he can't get into trouble. We highly recommend this book if you need a method of dealing with your little one/s that keeps everyone calm and it works to boot!

This is a well written book. Clear instructions as well as great examples. My eight year old son is doing very well with this new method of discipline/instruction. The one thing we do differently is the book suggests that after the three count and take 8 minutes in his room, for the child to come back and nothing is mentioned about previous behaviour. We changed that into coming over for a hug and an apology and then we move on. I have seen a huge difference in his heart attitude and he also is learning to control himself and to stop his behaviour before getting to a three count. Obviously, we still have issues (he's not perfect), but I can see a noticeable change in him as a young man. The other change is me. I am not yelling, I am not getting upset, no anger in me anymore. I know that I can just shrug my shoulders inside and know I can react calmly and count and it resolves itself gently/quietly. I feel for the first time I have control again (what I mean is I have been anxious about this child in public or with company because I just never knew how to control him when he was completely disrespectful or disobedient, he never cared how he looked in public throwing a tantrum,etc.), now I feel safe again and he feels safe, too. I hope that makes sense. Thank you for this book.

Amazingly wonderful

I couldn't put this book down. I read it in a day . What Mr.Jones wrote was the truth and made me think back to all my past relationships and why they turned out the way they did. Now I know what I need to do. I would 100% recommend this book. Thank you for a great read. Can't wait to get my hand on other books you write.

This book was awesome!! I follow a few people on Instagram who always raved about it and when I began following the author, I became curious about the book. It came at an interesting time in my life and I'm glad that I read it. I definitely could connect with many of the topics discussed and I felt like a lot of it was written for my particular situations. I recommend this book!

"Cross the Line;" A Book You'll Want in Audible & In Kindle Format - Authentic Character-Based Action-Adventure Crime Fiction

Written in Adult English, but, with only a very few f-bombs, this crime fiction novel would probably be rated PG-13 if it were a film.

Quick Overview

Written mostly in first person POV, this is classic James Patterson and his character Alex Cross.

The story leads with a prologue, but, for the life of me, I can’t figure out why the prologue wasn’t simply titled Chapter 1. Whatever, though, this and the subsequent chapter drew me into the story and held on to me better than most other writers do.

Then again, I am definitely a James Patterson fan. Still, this Alex Cross novel exhibits a good opening with action and descriptions that, at every turn, caught my interest and sucked me in deeper and deeper.

POV – Mostly first person, but the first person is not always Alex Cross. As the author often does in other books, he lets us know what a victim sees, feels, smells and understands at their moment of death. The challenge, for me as a reader, was to forget what the victim saw when I am reading what Alex Cross first notices upon reaching a crime scene.

GENRE – Billed as a Mystery Thriller-Suspense. Personally, I see it more as an Action-Adventure Crime Fiction novel.

PLOT OR CHARACTER – The key to this would ordinarily seem to be plot, as are most Patterson stories. Yet, the character development, letting us glimpse a character’s personal life and how it affects his judgment, convinces me that the magic here is in strong character development.

PACE – I love the pace. Taut action at some settings. At others, a slightly more leisurely description that allows us to catch out breath. There also is a bit or sarcastic dry wit, such as when another officer working on the case has an anniversary that demands the man’s attention away from the job. I won’t spoil it for you though.

EDITING – Of course this is professionally edited, removing or eliminating issues more commonly found in self-published works, sold at far lower prices.

PAGE LENGTH – 401 pages; Audible, 8 hours 35 minutes.

Q - Is this a book that I can read without having to read others first?
A – Yes, but most readers will have already read several Alex Cross novels.

Q – If this is a recurring character or a series, does it have a cliffhanger ending?
A – No. There is no cliffhanger ending.

Q - Is this a fast, easy read or is it more of a leisure read?
A – At 400 pages, this is not the sort of book you will read during commutes, but, it reads much faster than your typical 400-page tome.

Q - My biggest pleasure or disappointment?
A – For an Alex Cross fan there are no disappointments. What I am most pleased by Cross the Line is that it doesn’t feel like formula-based writing. When you consider how many books the author writes in any given year, it is easy to understand how some sort of formula must be necessary, but this story reads as if it were the only thing on this writer’s mind. If writing can have charisma, Cross the Line has oodles of charisma. At least for me.

To give a feel for the editing, and the style and flow of this work, I am posting a brief excerpt below.

The next drawer down was full of files. I looked through them, found out that she owned a late-model Audi A5 and that she vacationed in the Caymans— a lot, as in three times in the prior year. But there was nothing that gave me a clear idea of how she’d paid for it all.

I was thinking she’d have to have an income of over a hundred grand to live like this. Did Level 2 Certified Coaches make that kind of money? If so, maybe I was in the wrong business.

I thought about breaking the lock on the first cabinet but decided to take a look at the computer first. To my surprise, when I ran my finger across the touchpad, the screen lit right up and showed me the desktop. Several different applications were running.

One was Edita’s law school e-mail account. I sat down and scanned through the e-mails, seeing nothing from Tom McGrath. Most of the messages were to and from professors and classmates. One classmate, JohnnyBoy5, had sent six e-mails to her in the eighteen hours preceding her murder.

Really? read one sent around ten thirty the previous night. Standing me up again? This was your meet, remember?

I did a search of her entire in-box, looking for all e-mails from JohnnyBoy5. There were more than a hundred, going back eighteen months. I rearranged them so they were in chronological order and read a tale of growing obsession.

JohnnyBoy5 had evidently been smitten by Edita Kravic from the get-go, and he was not shy about saying so. Though she seemed to flirt with him at times, for the most part, she did nothing to encourage him.

Bottom Line:

This is another title I have bought through Audible. A big chunk of my salary now has gone to the likes of Craig Johnson, Stephen King and James Patterson. Amazon and Audible must be grateful.

ALEX CROSS THE LINES TO SAVE THE CITY!

Cross the Line by James Patterson, the twenty-fourth instalment in the Alex Cross series, is for die-hard fans of the series. As a long-time admirer of bestselling author James Patterson and a huge, huge fan of the Alex Cross series, I’m pretty excited about each new release and wanted each new chapter in the series to be a good one. I have been disappointed with some while most have kept me entertained, and satisfied. And this latest addition to the series is a well-crafted one where our hero faces a daunting task with a crime wave sweeping all over Washington, DC.

In this latest Alex Cross thriller, a baffling crime wave hits Washington, DC, with a high-ranking police official ending up as one of the victims. The police department is caught groping in the dark. Alex Cross and his wife Bree teams up to find the killer. But both husband and wife finds themselves at odds at crucial juncture, thereby impeding their work. When a vigilante group strikes with disastrous consequences, Alex Cross knew he has to tread cautiously and quickly before it is too late. In due course Alex Cross’ sharp mind sees a pattern in the method of the killers targeting victims who might have actually broken the law.

Cross the Line by James Patterson written in his true trademark style is one that you just can't put down once you start it. I loved the setting, the characterization and the premise of the story. The book wrangles together what I would have considered a weird medley of plot themes – murder, mystery, domestic issues, vigilante, and unsolved crimes. This book has got two things right - a terrific plot and strong characters. It is interesting to see the continuous development of the characters in the series, which is a welcome sign that James Patterson has no intention of bringing it to an end. And I can’t seem to have enough of Alex Cross!

OMG!!!!!

Now that I know that this book came before "Cross Kill", I got part of my questions answered by reading this book. However, that means that for the next however many months, I am going to be unable to stay calm over worrying about Sampson!!!!!! This was just totally strange that these two books came out "bass ackwards"!!!! Then knowing characters that feel like family are in danger is just cruel! What were you thinking, man? Would a heads up have been too hard to give? Plus how are you going to make this right? I am really nervous about what havoc you will create in the next book! If this whole mess signals trying to end this series, I am going to be broken hearted! Gloom, despair and agony on me.....deep dark depression, excessive misery!!!!!!! Sheeeeeesh!

The new standard for artisan bread books.

I've read many of the usual suspects of this genre: Jim Lahey, Chad Robertson, Amy's Bread, Peter Reinhart. You would think that there wasn't that much room for improvement based on what those fine books have taught. But what Ken Forkish has done here is not simply to give you recipes, but to teach you to think with the flexibility that bread baking demands, and to also demand creativity out of you to go past what's in the book.

One of the very best things about Ken's book is that he doesn't just throw recipes out there, then try to explain with a little blurb above them, or even, as Robertson did, to give an in-depth explanation after you've tried your hand at it. Instead, Ken goes and teaches you the concepts first, then goes and gives you a structure of recipe writing that helps you identify the concepts taught within the context of the recipe. You're going to feel more comfortable making the bread from the first attempt.

There's a lot here for the experienced bread baker here. Different mixes of flours, double fed levains, hybrid levain-commercial yeast solutions. There's a fantastic section on how to make recipes your own, whether it be about flour choices (and the different hydration requirements that some flours require), rearranging schedules to make your bread revolve around your life, the various options you have with levains, how to document your experimentation so that you can reproduce the results the next time.

Like Robertson and Lahey, he's baking in cast iron pots-- he prefers the smaller (and harder to find) 4 quart models, which contribute to higher rises in his opinion. The book, because of his structure, works exclusively in those pots, but he tells you how to adjust his system if you wanted to take a batch of dough meant for two loaves and turn it into one massive miche.

There's also an excellent pizza making section, with sauce recipes, pizza tossing instructions, plus pan pizza recipes. He ends with a Lagniappe of some hazelnut butter cookies, but I have to admit, I was really hoping he'd share a baguette recipe since he'd referenced them so often in his own story.

All in all, a superb book that adds a lot of depth to the genre.

Fantastic, but you should know . . .

This book could easily receive one or five stars, depending on what you are looking for. It was perfect for me, but I would like to clarify exactly what it is you would get out of this book, and what you would not.

First off, if you are looking for a book of great, simple recipes that you can throw in the breadmaker real quick once you get home, this is NOT the book for you. If you're looking more for a diverse bread recipe book vs break knowledge, this is not the book for you.

This is a very good equivalent of a breadcrafting 101 textbook. Now, I say 'breadcrafting' vs just 'baking' because this book takes you far beyond "mix X and Y, bake at Z, eat." Using the same very simple ingredients (see title), you will make a variety of different flavors, based on times, ferments, etc. You will learn how to literally use temperature and times as ingredients and how these can make bread made with the very same ingredients VERY different. You will truly learn the basics of making great bread. I would note that this book also calls for a covered dutch oven to finally bake these loaves in, which will replace much in the way of expensive baking equipment and give a lovely crust.

For the book itself: There are literally over a hundred favored methods of breadmaking all over the world. This book contains a much smaller focused area than, say, Peter Reinhart's "Bread Baker's Apprentice". The recipes are for lean dough, non-enriched breads, made straight, with delayed fermentation, and finally as pure sourdough. The doughs he uses are very wet (usually well in excess of 70% hydration), and his preference to hand-forming everything in the bowl vs using a mixer, etc, will actually give some excellent groundwork in learning dough handling. An advantage to wet doughs (among other things like quality), is that you can most easily feel changes in the dough as you work it, teaching you to make bread by feel, and really KNOW when things are ready. The basic recipe is varied with different flours, bigas or poolishes, and finally making and using a sourdough culture. The variations one learns of a recipe are incredible in terms of taste and texture, when the main variables are time and temp.

This book is a fantastic stepping stone for more varied texts (Bread Bible, Bread Baker's Apprentice, and the all but sacred bread text "The Taste of Bread" by Raymond Calvel). If you are looking to learn the basic knowledge needed to make truly magnificent bread in your home, this is the book to start with. If you are a more advanced baker, but still need to solidify the basics covered in this text, you will find that material familiar but new at the same time, and will get more than your money's worth.

Even if you own dozens of bread books, as I do, you will find much to love about Ken Forkish's "Flour, Water, Salt, Yeast." One of my biggest difficulties in making bread at home has always been scoring the top of the loaf before baking it. Even when I use an oiled razor blade, I can't seem to make a clean cut in the top of the bread. The blade tugs at the dough and causes it to deflate. Ken Forkish solves this problem by recommending that you bake your bread with the seam side (as opposed to the smooth side) up and not scoring it at all. The natural fissures in the seam side of the bread will open up in the heat of the oven and create the same kind of effect you'd get from successfully scoring the top of the loaf. This information alone made the book worthwhile to me. The critics who complain that the book contains only a handful of recipes are correct but they are missing the point. This isn't one of those "1000 Ways To Make Bread at Home" books. This book is about the fundamentals of good home breadmaking.It is well-written, well-illustrated, and bursting with good advice. I recommend it heartily.

"To read this book right, you have to read it wrong," writes Jack Miles in the foreword to Mark C. Taylor's Hiding, the first indication that what lies within is not your typical work of philosophy. Become distracted by its surface charms rather than convinced by its argument, in other words, and you've grasped the author's intent. Hiding aims to seduce as much as convince, Miles writes, and in that aim it succeeds.

A professor at Williams College, Taylor is a truly interdisciplinary thinker whose work draws on theology, art and architecture, linguistics, literary criticism, fashion, technology, and even tattoos. In Hiding, he takes these diverse influences and weaves a virtual web of postmodern delights. Even the book's striking graphic design is part and parcel of Taylor's thought, eliminating the dichotomy between what is said and how it is presented. Ahead of its time

I first resisted Hiding. I wanted to disapprove of its subject matter (skin, mystery novels, fashion, Vegas, and on!). I really tried not to like it. But it's grown on me in ways that I find quite challenging. And that challenge is what's best about it.
There was a review in BookForum about Hiding that couldn't let go of the central tenet of this cunning book: surface is not to be underestimated. Surface (as opposed to depth) is not simply a dead-end but the beginnings of a new worldview. While older worryworts and curmudgeonly librarian types may protest this premise, sorry, I've got five words for all of you: Sean "Puffy" Combs, Grammy Winner.
The layout of the book is as provocative as its content: our current state of affairs. Supermodels are celebrities, COPS is reality television, Las Vegas is a family getaway, tattooing is our youth's version of long hair. All of these topics get brought up and explored in studied and thoughtful detail. Yet, Taylor doesn't dissect these cultural changes from a sterile laboratory atop an ivory tower -- he digs right into it. His section on fashion reads like it's a special pullout to W magazine (let's see that happen!) and you don't need a dictionary to make sense of the fundamental mysteries being wrestled with throughout this fast-paced tome.
It can be difficult, at times, to make sense of some of the more poetic or lyrical moments but then I also don't care much for rap or French cinema. All in all, I'd put this (quite beautiful to look at) book right up there with anything Barthes has written -- with the added bonus that this is an enthusiastically eclectic and sincerely postmodern collage.

A positive alternative to Baudrillard's dim view of the postmodern condition can be found in Mark C. Taylor's 1997 book HIDING--a philosophical re-visoning of our contemporary Western society that instead of clinging to vestigial epistemic notions of depth and foundationalism, embraces a holistic, worldwide web view of social structures. By way of an extended, elaborate metaphor that describes our ontological condition as being intimately related to our embryonic development (we are nothing more than layers of skin upon layers of skin, ad infinitum), Taylor suggests a new epistemic outlook that no longer makes an issue of depths, but rather focuses upon the complex relationship of interactive, interacting phenomena--in his phrase, "the profundity of surface." Emergent, virtual technologies retroactively point to our own socially constructed "reality" as always-already virtual itself, and to get caught up in the trap of defining contemporary phenomena in terms of outdated analytical models will only succeed in an inescapably circular logic; as he puts it, "After (the) all has been said and done, the question that remains is not `What is virtual reality?' but `What is not virtual reality?' (267). This shift in focus allows us to give our undivided attention to the realm of practice, to aesthetics, to surface; like Slavoj Zizek in TARRYING WITH THE NEGATIVE, Taylor would have us interface with things-in-themselves, allowing us to become aware of our positioning within a complex web of relations between phenomena, as well as what that positioning will allow us to do.

About the Author
John Charles Ryle (1816-1900) was the first Anglican bishop of Liverpool. Ryle was born at Macclesfield, and was educated at Eton and at Christ Church, Oxford, where he was Craven Scholar in 1836. After holding a curacy at Exbury in Hampshire, he became rector of St Thomas's, Winchester (1843), rector of Helmingham, Suffolk (1844), vicar of Stradbroke (1861), honorary canon of Norwich (1872), and dean of Salisbury (1880). However before taking the latter office, he was advanced to the new see of Liverpool, where he remained until his resignation, which took place three months before his death at Lowestoft. His appointment to Liverpool was at the recommendation of the outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. Ryle was a strong supporter of the evangelical school and a critic of Ritualism. He was a writer, pastor and an evangelical preacher. Among his longer works are Christian Leaders of the Eighteenth Century (1869), Expository Thoughts on the Gospels (7 vols, 1856 69), Principles for Churchmen (1884). Ryle was an athlete who rowed and played Cricket for Oxford, where he took a first class degree in Greats and was offered a college fellowship (teaching position) which he declined. The son of a wealthy banker, he was destined for a career in politics before choosing a path of ordained ministry. While hearing Ephesians 2 read in church in 1838, he felt a spiritual awakening and was ordained by Bishop Sumner at Winchester in 1842. For 38 years he was a parish vicar, first at Helmingham and later at Stradbrooke, in Suffolk. He became a leader of the evangelical party in the Church of England and was noted for his doctrinal essays and polemical writings. In 1880, at age 64, he became the first bishop of Liverpool, at the recommendation of Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. He retired in 1900 at age 83 and died later the same year. He is buried in the All Saints' Church, Childwall, Liverpool. In his diocese, he formed a clergy pension fund for his diocese and built over forty churches. Controversially, he emphasized raising clergy salaries ahead of building a cathedral for his new diocese. Ryle was described as having a commanding presence and vigorous in advocating his principles albeit with a warm disposition. He was also credited with having success in evangelizing the blue collar community.

Challenging, encouraging - great read!

A most outstanding book and excellent read. Ryle was the Bishop of Liverpool in the late 1700s and his writing is alive with the Word of God and the intensity of the Puritans. This little salvo is a challenge to all to pray - to those who don't know the Lord to cry out for God's mercy and redemption and for those who do to cry out for God's continued hand of protection and provision in their own lives as well as for His grace and mercy in the lives of others. Ryle is straightforward in his approach on this subject asking repeatedly and simply - Do You Pray?

Yet he goes beyond the question to the meat of the issue giving strong arguments for why prayer, the most neglected duty in religion according to Ryle, is so necessary for the spiritual well-being of an individual. Once he has made his point, and made it well, Ryle turns his attention to how a person should pray. This work of prayer, according to Ryle, is so often neglected because it is such an arduous task cutting against the flesh and standing (or kneeing in this case) in direct opposition and defiance of Satan himself. Ryle encourages the Christian to pray with reverence and humility, spiritually, as a regular part of their business of life, with all perseverance, in earnestness, in faith, with boldness, with fullness, on behalf of others, with thankfulness and with watchfulness over one's prayers. He writes this to state his position on the importance of prayer: "Tell me what a man's prayers are, and I will soon tell you the state of his soul. Prayer is the spiritual pulse."

I am gaining in my appreciation for the works of J.C. Ryle - wonderfully written, challenging, yet encouraging to the heart of a true follower of Christ. Here is a man that walked with the Lord in humility and with passion and reading his works must be Timothy getting a letter from Paul. I would highly recommend A Call to Prayer to anyone wanting to know why to pray or how to pray.

Direct and Practical

In this short booklet, Ryle charges the reader with the necessity of prayer. He cuts through the excuses and the pretense with the simple question: "Do you pray?" Ryle's style is concise and immanently readable. He argues that prayer or the lack of prayer is the single greatest barometer for a person's status before the Lord. For "[t]o be prayerless is to be without Christ, without God, without grace, without hope, and without heaven," (p.2).

I am very thankful for having read a call to prayer by J.C. Ryle. Ryle is Bold,encouraging, and affectionate in his earnest invitation for all children of God to come before Him in prayer. Prayer is crucial in the life of the believer and it is evidence that one has been born from above as Ryle mentioned. I agree completely with Ryle when he says that prayer is the most neglected duty in the church because I am evidence of this charge. I pray, but I don not really pray as Ryle would say.

To consider how we in the new covenant have direct access to God is overwhelming and humbling. Men of old could have only dreamed of such access but we have the privilege and we must take advantage of it. To be allowed to speak with the living God of the Universe is beyond comprehension and to recognize my negligence in my communing with Him is heartbreaking.

Ryle has greatly encouraged and challenged my prayer life and communion with my God. I know I do not pray like men in the Bible or great men in church history butit is my hearts desire to pray in this way. I want to know the Godhead intimately and prayer is the means to the throne of grace. It is necessary that I give more time to prayer knowing that prayer is one of the means of grace God has blessed those whom he has
adopted with. Ryle has encouraged me to pray with reverence, humility, perseverance and earnestness, in faith, in boldness, on behalf of others, with thankfulness, and watchfulness.

This book is intended to serve as quick reference handbook on so-called designer drugs. These new, mainly synthetic compounds are also often referred to as analogues of controlled substances. This new work provides a unique directory of 104 designer drugs. This class of drugs is rapidly growing in variety and number of compounds. Although identification, toxicology and other properties have been thoroughly investigated, their analogues and derivatives remain poorly documented. This book fills the gap. Data which is available is often contradictory and confused. This directory provides a critical treatment of the subject which is thoroughly indexed including both the subject index and an index listing more that 230 street names of the described designer drugs. Divided into two parts; the first section describes aspects of designer drug manufacture, new abuse trends, sources of information and terminology. The second, descriptive part, classifies the drugs into ten main categories according to their chemical structure and prevalent pharmacological action. A separate chapter is devoted to each category, followed by a set of corresponding data sheets, street names and eventual synonyms, Toxicological data, short notes on the history of drugs as well as the most pertinent bibliographic references are included.

not worth it

This book was recommended to me by a number of people, so I picked up a copy. To be honest, I was a little dissappointed. The descriptions of each compound are short and not all that informative. They reiterate a lot of the standard rhetoric by comparing everything to either LSD or MDMA. Some of the stuff about fentanyl analogues is interesting,..., this book is definately not worth it. Your money would be much better spent on either PiHKAL or TiHKAL by the good Dr. Shulgin (half the references in "Designer Drugs Directory" are from these books anyway).

I was disappointed with the organization and usefulness of the information contained within. It was not relevantly up-to-date, in my opinion.
