I just received the book today and finished it by tonight but I enjoyed the book about thebig bad man who in the end was lonely and would do anything to get some love by a young man. I liked it and hopefully you will too. Lots of sex scenes in this book.

illustrations sparse but the story is thoughtful

The illustrations leave something to be desired -- much less detail than I am used to with this sort of book but better than some of the poorly drawn things I have seen. The story too is rather sparse in terms of words but the panels and the events are rather intense. I had hoped things would be a bit more S&M than it was but overall I was pleased.

Dušan Petričić was born in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, and graduated from the University of Belgrade Faculty of Applied Arts and Design. His political cartoons and illustrations have regularly appeared in major newspapers and magazines in Europe and North America. As co-author and/or illustrator, he has created more than forty children's books and is the recipient of many prestigious international awards. While pursuing his own career as an artist, Dušan has taken time to teach students illustration and animation.

My Kids Approved!

I want to start out by saying that I absolutely love the illustrations! Dušan Petričić is talented! It is fun how the picture components are placed in multiple boxes on the page. This helps a child (or you) to easily focus on the photo and associate it with each bit of text. The odd angles of the text and photos make the page interesting. The colors are beautiful and the caricatures…well, they are awesome according to my son and I agree.

I read this story with my eight year old son and my six-year-old daughter. When we finished I asked them what they thought about the book. No other audience really matters since InvisiBill is a children’s book. My son looked at me and said it was cool. My daughter just smiled and gave me a thumbs up. That is actually pretty high praise for my wiggly jiggly daughter.

Throughout our reading and upon completion of the book we spent a bit of time talking through the story. This time was well spent as I could tell that there were components of InvisiBill that they didn’t understand and they had some observations that made me smile. Each child views a story through the lens of their own perceptions and experiences but here are some pieces of our conversation:

When we reached the point where “the wonderful, terrible thing that happened” happened. My daughter thought that the family would notice right away and that they would miss Bill. I explained what was really occurring and we moved along.

My kids could understand Bill’s frustration with busy parents and siblings engaged in their own interests.

We all thought that Bill’s hair looked like an orange pineapple as opposed to a pumpkin as it is described in the story.

A great laugh was had at my expense when the peanut butter and pickle sandwich popped up in the story and I was delighted. We haven’t heard of many people even knowing about them let alone willing to try them. I live in a family of six and ALL of them make fun of me when I eat one. I have loved them since I was a kid so I wish that I could be invisible and eat one in peace and quiet. So now Ms. Fergus needs to write a book about having others pay too much attention to what you are doing ;).

As a mother, I believe InvisiBill is a great story to read with your children and to spend a few moments discussing. We all feel invisible sometimes and this story is a good reminder to parents to set aside family time without allowing distractions. It is also good for a child to hear that other kids feel the same way and that they truly are loved even when they don’t feel like it.

As my son hopped out of the room after story time he looked back at me and said again that the book was cool. High marks!

There is a lesson in this book - can you find it?

Isn't it every kid's dream to be invisible? Just imagine the stuff you could do. But sometimes, being invisible isn't what it's cracked up to be. Especially when you need a little attention. Or your potato.Bill's family is very busy. Busy texting, phoning, reading and watching TV. At.the.supper.table!

Suddenly Bill disappears and no one seems to notice. He's so unhappy because it seems that everyone is so occupied with their other activities that he is no longer important to them. It's only when the garbage needs to be taken out that his family flies into panic mode when they realize that they can't find him.

There is a lesson in this book - can you find it?

Plenty of amusing illustrations, a hysterically funny doctor and goofy siblings make this children's book a fun read.

Birth order theory, gate-control theory, and Freud's theory of personality are examples of entries concerning theories. Examples of entries concerning hypotheses include elicited observing rate hypothesis, facial feedback hypothesis, total time hypothesis/law, and Whorf-Sapir hypothesis/theory. Readers interested in laws and principles will find all-or-none law/principle, Mendel's laws/principles, and Zeising's principle. Effects, such as the Stroop effect, and doctrines, such as the doctrine of unconscious inference, are also included.

Each entry consists of the definition/description of the term with commentary, followed by a number of cross-referenced, related terms and by chronologically ordered lists of sources to indicate the evolution of the term. The first appendix, "Frequency of Usage of Concepts as Sampled in Psychology Textbooks, 1885^-1996," provides supplementary material on many laws and theories not included in the dictionary itself and will be helpful to students and scholars concerned with specialty areas in psychology. Roeckelein, a professor of psychology in the Department of Psychology at Mesa Community College, Mesa, Arizona, is to be commended for his appreciation of semantic and theoretical distinctions. Although the mid-1990s have seen the publication of several dictionaries and encyclopedias in psychology, some of which are revisions of important titles, none of these titles represents serious competition for this scholarly dictionary. The Gale Encyclopedia of Psychology [RBB D 15 96], although full of useful information for anyone who is interested in psychology, is more appropriate to high-school students and general readers seeking an understanding of the concepts of academic psychology as employed by experts in the field. Billed as a dictionary for psychologists, Stuart Sutherland's second edition of The International Dictionary of Psychology [RBB Ap 1 96] attempts to include all technical terms from psychiatry, neurology, neurophysiology, neurochemistry, ethology, sociobiology, genetics, linguistics, artificial intelligence, sociology, anthropology, statistics, philosophy, and other disciplines. Benjamin B. Wolman's concise, current Encyclopedia of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Psychoanalysis [RBB Je 1 97] and Raymond J. Corsini's reliable four-volume Encyclopedia of Psychology [RBB S 15 94] also pose no competition because they differ in both scope and purpose. Written with the broadest possible audience in mind, and containing some 17,000 terms, the second edition of Arthur S. Reber's Penguin Dictionary of Psychology (1995) is considerably less focused and more wide-ranging than Roeckelein's work, and also more weighty and cumbersome.

Rare Details about Experimental Psychology

When I Googled 'essential identity of the nerve impulse', this rare beauty popped up, showing details I remembered from graduate school. I bought a used copy which arrived in very good condition. After feasting on its scrumptious details, I tried to find just the right place for it in my voluminous library. Ahhh! Just the right place! OMG, it's already there!! Yes, I had already bought the book and it just shows you how useful it would be to be able to 'text-search' your own books! Which is why I buy mostly Kindle editions nowadays!

"The Ninjabread Man" takes place in Japan, where a lonely boy decides to make a brother out of gingerbread. When he accidentally spills black icing on his cookie, it is transformed into the ninjabread man. The tiny gingerbread ninja uses many clever tricks and devices to elude his pursuers which include a raccoon dog, a sparrow, and a gang of monkeys. When the ninja-bread man comes to a dead end at a riverbank, he finds a tired old cat who is willing to bring him across the river. Of course, one has to wonder if this cat is as old and tired as he lets on. In the end, the one with the most tricks up his sleeve wins the day.

All of the ninja tools in this story are based on actual ninja tools, but are made out of candy, spices or gingerbread. There is an informational section at the end which provides some background information on the characters and tools in the story.

Fun and interesting

Read carefully and all the way to the end of the book to find out what everything means. This fun little story about the ninja bread man has history and learning embedded in its plan.

This is a clever, creative, and comedic version of the classic Gingerbread tale with a great positive ending. My two boys, 8 & 4 both laughed and enjoyed the tale asking me to read it again.
