My book came as expected. It was slightly damaged along the corners and had highlighting in it, but I bought it used and was warned about that before hand.

Content wise the book is really informative. It includes practice problems and real life examples of the topics mentioned.

Great little guide

I'm just getting into exploring our local wild mushrooms and this is and handy guide with clear pictures and good identification. It is a FIELD guide (easy to put into a backpack and carry), not a "pocket guide". But the hefty amount of information on mushrooms for those looking to learn is significant - so I'd recommend this book as your "walk-around" guide.
There are some changes I'd like to see. 1) The photos are great but having small insets on variations would be great. 2) Taking a cue from "Dummies" books, having more "shorthand" references would be great. For example, they have an x in a circle by the photos of mushrooms known to be poisonous or hallucinogenic. It would be great to have other symbols for edible or medicinal. It would also be great to have symbols that indicate the type of environment and range where the mushroom is usually found and in what season(s). Maybe they can make an app for that!
Other than that, this book is extremely useful and chock-a-block full of information - both on specific types of mushroom and mushrooms in general. It is also well organized and easy to use.

Great pix, almost too nice to take in the field.

I'm gonna admit right now I'm a total shroom newb. Just getting into the subject. I got this basically because I wanted pictures, and I was hoping the NAS name was still reliable.

I read other reviews before I bought it, and I'm not too fussed if they used "fake" names, since I wouldn't know the difference. As long as the names on the pix match the text I'm good, and the ones I spot checked did. I don't plan on getting involved in any clubs or anything.

The pix are great,very clear and it worked for me tryin to find out what the ones in my back yard are. I actually took to their 'thumb guide' pretty well, so I like that. (They put the pix in groups and gave page ranges for each group, identified by a little icon unique to each) It's bound quite nicely, but all that means for me is I'm gonna feel bad when I get it messed up trying to use it on our next camping trip. Would be great in someone's library tho, so some might call it a plus.

A trly superlative field guide

I own three mushroom field guides now and if I had to choose only one it would definitely be this one. This field guide has 762 well photographed and very nicely printed pictures of 703 species of mushrooms and has a sturdy faux leather plastic cover although the pages are not waterproof so don't expose this book to rain. It has a section addressing poisonous mushrooms and another on edible mushrooms as well as a pore print chart which is invaluable. hallucinogenic mushrooms are addressed individually. Each mushroom has at least one full color photograph that is linked to a short description of the mushroom, its identifying features, its habitat and its edibility if applicable.

The organization of this book is brilliant. I'm sure scientists would be almost driven to group species of mushrooms together regardless of appearance but this guide helps one find the description of a mushroom by appearance. The photos are divided into 14 classes based on typical shapes and then the photo page numbers are linked to the shapes. Amanita mushrooms have several different distinctive shapes so each shape has it's own section. Polypores are another example and have three sections, one that deals with polypores that are shaped like typical mshrooms, one section that deals with stalked polypores that are less regularly shaped and another that deals with shelf like or bracket type polypores and other shelflike fungi. It sounds complex but isn't generally all that difficult.One can also work the other way and use the index to look up a fungus by name.

There's literally a ton of valuable and interesting information crammed into this book and it's a great learning tool on its own..

Successful Learning

Textbook provides not only required learning for class but also interesting method of delivery that makes it stick in one's memory. This is my first time buying a Kindle textbook version and was happy I was able to read it on my Kindle and Android phone. The ability to create flashcard notes was added bonus.

About the Author
Schahrzad Berkland's friends coaxed her to write a book about her sex life. She has a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska - Omaha, and an MBA from Arizona State University-West. She was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1961, and moved to the U.S. at age 9. She loves running hilly trails, playing piano, Transcendental Meditation, younger men, asking questions, and of course, sex. She and her children live in San Diego, California. This is her first book.

Long winded and seems like fiction

The author covers what she wanted to in the first 100 pages. After that it gets redundant with same story different guy. It is sad to see a woman so confused that she thinks she is "making love" to all these men when it is clearly meaningless sex. The stories seem a little over the top and I am not sure if San Diego has that many men craving a woman's treasure that they love to pleasure her but if so the author found everyone of them in the area. It is clear she has an addiction to sex and is longing for a close interpersonal and meaningful relationship that she tries to fill with sex. Hopefully the next book she attempts to write is how she straightened out her life through mental health counseling and abstinence. This book was nothing more than her sexual conquests put together and published.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THE SEXUALLY LIBERAL AND CURIOUS AUDIENCE

I was able to read a sample of the book on line (up to chapter 7). I started to read it on my cell phone and couldn't put it down. I love it!!!! It is well written, liberating and entertaining. Looking forward to reading the whole book!!!

Buy this book!

This book had me from page one. I haven't finished yet, but I'm reading so much every day and even odered a paperback copy so I could have one to hold and possibly lend to friends. My other copy is on Kindle. Schahrzad has experiences that I wish I had and she describes them in erotic detail. I find this book very exciting and well written. I love strong, honest women and she fits that description. I would love to meet her one day, Ironically she has lived in Omaha, which is a place I lived for 6 months and visited often as a child, and went to school in a city only 20 minutes away from where I live now. This was all just coincidence, but I feel like it was fate.
I am adding to this after I've read the entire book. It's remarkable how good it was considering her friends just said "You should write a book" and didn't have a background as a writer. She's planning a second book, and I'm just as excited to read that. It's so refreshing to know that there are such unflinchingly honest people in this world. She shares her joys and sorrows. I want all my friends to enjoy this book. No fiction book could ever do it justice.

WOW ... what a really awesome steamy romance!!!!

I LOVED THIS BOOK! :)
Andy, who has a serious auto-immune disease, takes over a friends lease to attend a drug study for her illness. Tragan is a sexy construction worker who is suddenly stuck with a female roommate after his roomie Ethan moves to London.

The sexual chemistry between these two is sizzling and very well written. I read the book in the middle of the night and was about half way through within a couple of hours... fell asleep only to dream of Tragan LOL The book moves really fast .... after waking up I dove right back into the book and was done in a couple hours.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves romance novels. Constructing Us was fast paced, romantic, steamy, funny, cute and a really fun read :)

In a book world that is dominated by Alpha Males, it is not often that I can come across a guy next door type of hero that can hold his own against my beloved Alpha’s. When written correctly, I can totally fall in love with those types, and in C.J. Lake’s novel Constructing Us, that is exactly what I find. Tragan is the ultimate guy next door for me. He loves his buddies, his video games, and has a blue collar job. He is wonderful!!! Don’t get me wrong, I love a good Alpha, but I’ve always been a sucker for a sweet heart.

Tragan’s roommate, Ethan, has to suddenly move overseas, but instead of leaving him without a roommate, he offers a lifelong friend of his to move in, Andy. Ethan and Tragan were never considered friends, so it’s not surprising that Ethan leaves out one important detail about his friend Andy, that is she is a woman! When Andy moves in, Tragen’s reaction is priceless, and all kinds of sexual tension is brewing. He is attracted to her from the moment he laid eyes on her, and she feels the same way. Her sweetness, her beauty and most of all her heart captivate him. He has never been in love before, and is head over heels for her.

Andy feels the same way about him, but she has a boyfriend that she kind of likes. (I phrased it that way on purpose.) She has a mystery illness that she doesn’t want to burden people with, and has a good – intentions mother that also gets in the way.

I love the scenes where they are getting to know each other. They have a sweetness together, and I really felt the chemistry jumping off the pages. As a reader, I totally wanted them together.

I’m happy to say that this book did not end with a cliffhanger, and actually I was hoping it would go the way the author wrote it. And for me, that was a great thing. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I felt the author did a great job with her pacing of the story, and once the couple finally got together and did the deed – HOLY HOTNESS!!!! A great 5 star read!!!!

Definitely recommend!

I really enjoyed this book! Andy and Tragan have so much chemistry and their love scenes are hot! Tragan is super sexy and it was sweet how much he loved her. While Andy's disorder is intriguing, I liked that Lake didn't let it turn this book into a melodrama. Also, I thought Tragan's friends were funny. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a fun and steamy love story!
