A good AI book and an advanced 1000-page CL tutorial

As for AI part I must say that even though this book is somewhat old, its still very good for people new to the world of AI (such as myself). Since I only have another Norvig's book (http://www.amazon.com/Artificial-Intelligence-Modern-Approach-Edition/dp/0137903952/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1359373092&sr=8-3&keywords=Norvig) to compare to I must say that this book takes a more practical approach, allowing one to understand ways in which implementation efficiency can be improved.

For CL part - the best CL introduction and real world usage book in my opinion. Yes, I've read PCL, yet still this book digs a lot deeper when it comes to optimization patterns for Common Lisp. Motivation for almost every design choice is clear (overcoming Prolog's drawbacks is one of my favorite parts).

Also this book offers a variety of exercises and some of those are quite a time-killers.

As for cons - some of the exercises are formulated a bit freely. And again, book is 20 years old, so some content is a bit outdated, especially techno-related.

A mediocre AI / LISP book with very well-written examples

First, the good:

This book is a great read, both the code and non-code sections. Peter Norvig is clearly passionate about AI, and it comes through in his examples. His writing is clear and fun to read. His code examples are fantastic. When he begins a chapter by describing a problem, you think "wow, that's going to take ages to get through." Then you flip the page, and he's got all the code down on the next page. It's a real joy to see clear, concise, well-written code like this. This is probably what musicians feel when they listen to a Beethoven sonata.

The bad: the examples are historical (read: dated), and they don't teach you a whole lot about either AI or Lisp. If you know depth first search and regular expressions, you can breeze through the first 250 pages of this book: it won't show you anything besides some very well-written code (which, let me emphasize again, is really great to read). Unless you are using Lisp as your programming language (I'm using Haskell), section 3 (optimizing your Lisp code + Logic programming) will be hit and miss too.

So, to sum up:

If you want to learn Lisp, Norvig recommends Paul Graham's book.
If you want to learn AI, Norvig has written AI: A Modern Approach.

I spent five bucks on a used copy of this book, and felt like I got my money's worth. I would definitely not spend $80+ on it.

Jeanette Zaichkin has been a neonatal nurse for more than 30 years. She graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA, and received her master's degree from the University of Washington. Jeanette has worked as a staff nurse, clinical nurse specialist, manager, and neonatal outreach coordinator in a variety of settings, including community hospitals and major medical centers. She has numerous publications and has served as a consultant and editor for the American Academy of Pediatrics Neonatal Resuscitation Program since 1998. Jeanette leads Positive Pressure, her business enterprise that provides consultation and program development for neonatal resuscitation, simulation and debriefing, and instructor development.

NRP is better than ever!

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program has gone though many iterations since its inception. I thought the 7th edition of the textbook was the best version to date. It is easy to follow and memorable, with emphasis on teamwork, and special guidance in managing premature infants and special situations such as diaphragmatic hernia. I especially like the inclusion of LMA airways and a good detailed pictorial of how to insert them.

Great NRP edition

This is an easy to read comprehensive updated review of the care of distressed neonates. Key points and lesson reviews at the end of each chapter help to reinforce topics. Some topics are repeated throughout the book to help retention. Multiple case studies. This book makes it easy to pass the NRP 7th edition exam and is an excellent companion to the baby E-simulation learning tool cases on the AAP.org website. The book makes you a better caregiver for sure.

A good take on the law of attraction for love

Just as the title says, attracting that special person into your life or back into your life. It gets right to the point without any fluff, offering practical advice on how to use different law of attraction techniques to get the love your life back. There was a bit of a twist to using visualization that I haven't read about in other books and the idea of a software application to create a vision board was a new one. How many times have I read about using tape and pictures from a magazine? It's good to see that there are new ideas in this field.

The book takes you through several steps like the usual "write a list of what you want", but adds a bit of a twist on what you really are looking for - a person or a relationship. That was a new idea to me. It made me really think differently about manifesting and about what I wanted. The book also has information on heart energy and how loving yourself is as important as getting that special person to be with you. The book also has you take a look at yourself to see if you need to change something that might have caused the issues with your ex. That's not always easy, but let's just say that I look at my sheets and the clothes in my closet a little bit differently now. And, although I know reading this book won't make me perfect, I'm more at peace with myself and my ability to get my special person. I feel better knowing that I have some new ways to make it happen.

The book has a good flow. It sometimes is a bit slow when explaining some of the law of attraction ideas, but quickly picks back up. The author drives home a point but doesn't go over it so much that you have to quit reading for a while. I would have liked to have a bit more of the author's personal story, but overall the examples and ideas presented are good.

If you have an "ex" in your life, you want them back and you keep hoping it will happen, I would recommend this book. If you are looking for someone to be in your life and you're hoping too, I would recommend this book. I'm turning my hope into action. Wish me luck!

Buy the book!! It is a treasure trove to success in your love life and everything else

Hi I purchased this book after a REALLY bad breakup a couple years ago. If i told u what happened, you would have thought yeah it's over. We both live in completely different states. Looking at him you would think he has alllll these women on top of him n have moved on. I NEVER contacted him. This book WORKS n have set me on the path to learning how to use law of attraction to put my life back together. Just a few words of advice: this book works when you do everything in it n you LET GO. it took forever to work because i had the hardest time letting go. the VERY moment i let go (ex. when i just started throwing his pictures away) n just genuinely ok and happy with my life as it is n if he didn't come back that i was a-OK is WHEN he came right back on his own. A next word of advice: you have to stop looking at what is going on in front of you, even it it denies the very thing u want. you have to live FROM the invisible, but REAL world of having him back already. thirdly: it doesn't matter if they are seeing someone else because everything is energy and your raised vibration can switch things around so much that the person they may be seeing is swiftly taken out of the picture in a peaceful manner. Mind you, we hadn't spoken since the middle of 2013 and he came back the beginning of 2015. Still, since seeing my power in willing romantic relationship with him, i have now turned my attention to someone else because seeing this work is pretty amazing; it's effortless. this book is a gold mine because it's your secret weapon in life. give a chance. u have absolutely nothing to lose.

It takes time...BUT IT WORKS! AND THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS! :)

Well, what can I say?? In addition to being a good read...IT WORKED!! So, just a little bit of background; my (very pleasantly) intense relationship with someone ended very ABRUPTLY and, seemingly, without a reason. What seemed to be an amazing, uncanny connection and mutual love and sense of caring/nurturing - the kinds of which were never felt before by both - suddenly, poof...gone along with a strong realization that "the one" was...well, just gone. Not sure how I ended up on this page and book but I learned about LoA and did not realize I had been using it all along without even knowing it - the good and the bad. In retrospect, the more I thought about all that I have and lacked - I had created including this and, perhaps, collectively or individually - and all other endings. In any case, this was a great read BUT it did NOT work for me in the beginning (although it did help me cope and gave me a more positive outlook on life.) I did every single thing, EVERYTHING, as instructed, but it did not seem to work. I do have to caution that LoA does have a dark side, perhaps, when it comes to (broken) relationships - obsession.

Then one day, it hit me. Perhaps, the SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT component of the whole process: detachment. Letting go. I had not completely, totally, let go and was still holding on to the person and the dream, so to speak. The moment I completely let go, detached myself, abandoned concern with the outcome...and applied the principles in this book again....things begin to change...amazingly. Her and I are slowly finding out way back to each other. This is not an overnight process, it took me months. This is not something you do once - this is a paradigm shift from your core, a new way, the changing of your perception about what you THOUGHT of yourself, your partner(s), the world as you SAW it and your role/place in it all.

It's confounding of a paradox that you not only have to become what you desire but, simultaneously, you have to completely let go. Go figure:). I would recommend that Elizabeth really emphasize and, maybe, devote a chapter or two to the detachment part. For me, this was THE missing link:). Thanks.

Sweet Short Story

When Rebecca was a teenager, she ran away from home to marry her true love. Angry, her parents disowned her and when her husband unexpectedly died, she was left raising their twin daughters alone. Years later, Rebecca married another man for security. Unfortunately, he played her as well as everyone else and stole all she had. When he died, Rebecca was left with no money and his angry teenage daughter to raise. Trying to survive as a real estate agent in California, Rebecca is doing everything she can to provide for her family.

David is a Prince who has developed a reputation as a bad boy with the media. His time serving in the military has come to an end and he's now expected to fall in line with his royal family. When he meets the beautiful real estate agent and realizes she doesn't know who he is, David has to have her. They share an instant attraction and for the first time, someone wants him not because of his family. He knows he should stay clear and avoid developing feelings for her, after all, he's only suppose to be in California for one month. But David's drawn to Rebecca and realizes she might be reason enough to change the path of his life.

This was a really sweet short story about finding love and being willing to fight for it. Both main characters are good and it was a quick and enjoyable read.

This is a Sexy, Steamy, Swoon-worthy read with a Cinderella twist.

It is a quick-paced novella that still offers a great message with a fun escape. Because lets face it we all want to find our Prince Charming, it is nice to see a character that has been dealt some crappy things in life and yet still holding her head up high and make the best of her situations with a prince that she doesn't realize is a prince that too has been judged by previous actions and tragedy in his life.

I enjoyed this book and if you like fairy tales, but are looking for a modern, fun flair that is a little on the steamy side, then I highly recommend this book by Rachel Cross.

It is different from the previous Cross books, I have read, but I like this change of pace and hope she continues to surprise us with her next book.

Fabulous read that leaves you satisfied.

I have always enjoyed Rachel Cross books. So this was a no brainer purchase for me. I LOVED Rebecca and David won my heart. A quick, fun story about two people who aren't looking to be rescued but the universe does them a solid anyway. Well crafted. Great characters. Lots of lines that made me laugh out loud. Great dialogue and banter. I hope Cross comes out with more novellas because this was a perfect stay-in-bed lazy morning read and I could use more these in my life.
